Accrington Stanley of England defender, Michael Ihiekwe has received a huge link that could see him follow Nigerian legends Nwankwo Kanu, John Chukwudi Utakla and Yakubu Aiyegbeni as a star at Portsmouth.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Ihiekwe could follow in the giant footsteps etched on the sand of time at Pompey by Kanu, Utaka and Yakubu, as the English League One club are keen to bolster their defense.
That projection could now see Portsmouth move for Ihiekwe in the January transfer window, as they seek to lure the former Liverpool youth team player, who is currently on loan from Rotherham United.
Portsmouth have reportedly already opened talks with the central defender’s representatives over a move to Fratton Park and are confident the deal will go through.
Ihiekwe was loaned out to Accrington Stanley until January 2019 and has established himself as a first team regular, starting all but one of their matches in the third-tier league.
The 25-year-old is in the final seven months of his contract with Rotherham, whom he joined from Tranmere Rovers in 2017.
He could now be on his way to Portsmouth, who lead the standings in EFL League One with 38 points from 17 games.
