Despite a disappointing result in Uyo on Friday night, where Nigeria played to a 1-1 draw with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has expressed that he remains calm and focused.
According to the 53-year-old speaking at the post-match conference, “I am relaxed and not shaking. We know what’s at stake, we know we want to qualify, but that doesn’t mean we have to run helter-skelter because of a draw.
“We will see how we can get ourselves back and then go to Abidjan and see how we can compete there. If we can replicate our second-half performance there, I’m quite sure that we will win it.
A positive result will change the narrative, and that’s what we want to do on Monday.”
Addressing the reason Victor Boniface was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game, he explained, “We wanted to introduce Boniface and Moffi, but Semi had a knock, and we had to take him off and introduce Moffi and Onyedika instead.
“The fans and media will shout for different players, and if they don’t perform well, the shout will be to take them off. Allow us to do our jobs.”
The former Enyimba coach, however, promised that the 23-year-old will get his chance in the next game against Benin Republic.
The Super Eagles are currently fifth on the table with 3 points from 3 matches and face Benin Republic next on Monday in Ivory Coast.
