Former national U-23 coach, Fatai Amoo is of the opinion that the Super Eagles can beat South Africa on Saturday November 17 at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg in a crucial Africa Cup of Nation’s 2019 qualifier but the injury suffered by some of the team’s key stars might change the narrative of the game.
Speaking with footballlive.ng the 2014 Olympic Games bronze medal winning assistant coach said “It’s a game we can win but I think it is more dicey now because of some of the injuries picked up by some of the players and I think in all honesty it will have its effect.
I hope the players that have been given the opportunity to replace them will give their all to see that we can come out victorious on that day but it’s going to be a very tough game because the South Africans also know that anything short of victory or a draw may likely make them lose their slot if they lose to Libya in the last match but I tip the Eagles to win.
Amoo said he is more bothered about the outfield players that will miss the match due to injury or suspension but insist the Eagles will not miss the services of Elche of Spain safe hands Francis Uzoho. “I think the three other guys, Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Afelokhai any one out of them can man the post properly for Nigeria.
Afelokhai kept games for Enyimba in the CAF Confederations Cup and to me he didn’t do badly. Ezenwa during Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup we all know he did well and Akpeyi is playing regularly for his club in South Africa. All they need is to get the opportunity to play and they will do well.”
Uzoho who has been our number one is not a bad keeper but to me he is not fantastic compared to these three guys we have in camp so its just for Nigerians to support the players not criticizing them because if we keep criticizing every body we are not going to get anthing.”
Chippa United shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi was in goal for the team when Nigeria lost to South Africa 2 – 0 in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo.
