Inter Lagos Defender Oluwafemi Ayokunle Decries Controversial Loss to El Kanemi Warriors in President Federation Cup

Date:

Inter Lagos defender, Oluwafemi Ayokunle, has voiced his frustration over his team’s controversial loss to El Kanemi Warriors in the 2024 President Federation Cup. The match ended with El Kanemi Warriors securing victory through a disputed penalty, leading to Inter Lagos’s elimination from the competition.

Reflecting on the game, Ayokunle lamented the decision that led to the penalty, which he believes was unjustified. “It was a controversial penalty, given towards the end of the game in the box,” he recounted. “The player just fell after getting the ball from his leg, and the central referee awarded the penalty. It felt like we were robbed. Both the assistant referees and the central referee were out of line with that decision.”

Ayokunle was convinced that his team deserved to progress to the semi-finals and attributed their exit to poor officiating. “We could have gone further in the competition if not for the terrible officiating. It was truly terrible,” he stated emphatically in a chat Brila Media.

Despite the setback for Inter Lagos, the competition continues with the semi-final matchups now set. Abia Warriors are set to face Kano Pillars, while Kebbi United will take on El Kanemi Warriors, showcasing a mix of both NNL and NPFL teams competing for the coveted prize.
