Napoli coach Antonio Conte has addressed Victor Osimhen’s situation at the club following the close of the transfer window.
Despite efforts to move, Osimhen could not secure a transfer due to his high price tag. A late deal with Chelsea fell through after Osimhen refused to accept a pay cut, as Chelsea was unwilling to match his current salary.
In the wake of Osimhen’s failed transfer, Conte has turned to Romelu Lukaku, who made an immediate impact by scoring in his debut and inspiring Napoli’s comeback win against Parma.
Speaking after the 2-1 victory over Parma on Saturday night, Conte expressed confidence in the team’s current strength despite Osimhen’s absence:
“Strong players have arrived from a market that was difficult and at times blocked. They came to fill the slots, and I’m happy with the work done by the club.”
However, Conte acknowledged the situation with Osimhen, adding:
“Of course, if Osimhen had been sold, we would have completed the situation better.”
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain. With the Saudi Arabian transfer window still open, there is speculation about a potential move there, or he may stay at Napoli without playing until the January transfer window as the player isn’t interested in a move outside Europe.
