Benin Republic coach, Gernot Rohr, has pointed out key differences between the Super Eagles team that defeated his side 3-0 in Uyo and the squad his Benin team previously triumphed over in Abidjan.
The Super Eagles claimed a 3-0 victory against the Cheetahs on Saturday in the Afcon 2025 qualifiers
In the post-match press conference, Rohr, a former Super Eagles manager, highlighted the significant gap in talent between the two teams, crediting Nigeria’s depth and star power for the result.
“When I saw players like Moses Simon, Osimhen, Dele Bashiru, the bench they have is fantastic and we don’t have that but my young team is learning.
What we showed against the Super Eagles in Abijan in June was full of hope and future”
He went on to praise the Super Eagles’ defensive structure, which he believes played a pivotal role in their victory.
“The Super Eagles were well organized defensively and it is what it is.
It’s a different team. Four or five players were not there in Abidjan. They didn’t have their usual captain, Simon Moses, and other players who played today.”
Rohr also emphasized the advantage Nigeria had playing in front of a home crowd, stating:
“They played at home with supporters and wonderful crowd, we don’t have so many big players like Nigeria that was the difference”
Despite the loss, Rohr remains optimistic about Benin’s future. He mentioned that their target is to finish second in the group and must win against Libya in their next match on Tuesday.
