Alex Iwobi starred in a preseason friendly against Hoffenheim as Fulham claimed a 2-0 win in their final preseason game of the summer break. Iwobi was a mastermind, at the heart of both Fulham goals with his intricate passing and movement.
The first goal of the game came in the 33rd minute, with the Nigerian lay a chipped pass that decimated the Hoffenheim defense and found new teammate, Emile Smith Rowe, who scored for a second time in a Fulham shirt since his transfer.
Iwobi created another chance for Smith Rowe in the early exchanges of the second half, but the Englishman’s effort was parried by Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper, with Rodrigo Muniz failing to convert the rebound.
The Nigerian midfielder stamped his authority on the game in the middle of the second half, carrying the ball from deep in his own half and surged forward, before laying a diagonal ball to Adama Traore who made no mistake in doubling their advantage.
Fulham were pressured in the latter stages of the game, with Bernd Leno making a couple of saves. However, Iwobi’s masterful performance turned out to be the decider as they claimed a win.
The cottagers have now ended preseason, and will look forward to the league opener against Manchester United on Friday.
