Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has been tipped by Gunners’ legend, Robert Pires to enact more captivating outings with the club, starting with Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against Qarabag of Azerbaijan.
Pires, who was part of the all-conquering Arsenal Invincibles back in the day, saiud he was impressed with Iwobi’s performance against Watford last weekend and believes the Super Eagles star would be key to Arsenal going far this season.
The Frenchman interjected a hint that Iwobi would make his mark on the continental terrain as well, with a verdict that Austin Okocha’s nephew is magical both individually and as a team player.
Iwobi has been in fine form for the Gunners since the start of the season and was involved in the two goals scored by the London club against Watford this past weekend.
He is now poised to make his eighth appearance in the Europa League in Arsenal’s Group E fixture against Qarabag at Tofiq Bəhramov Adına Respublika Stadionu in Baku on Thursday evening.
The Azerbaijanis are wary of Iwobi ahead of the match day two fixture with one of their leading media outlets including him among the top five most dangerous players in the Arsenal squad.
Ahead of Thursday’s match, Pires revealed that he spoke with Iwobi after the lad’s game changing performance against Watford in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Iwobi came off the bench in place of contract rebel Aaron Ramsey and played a huge role in The Gunners’ 2-0 win over the Hornets.
Iwobi’s cross resulted in Watford’s defender Craig Cathcart diverting the ball into his team’s net under pressure from striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Pires stated: “I know just one thing, I told him after the game he made the difference.
“He’s a great player, very very fast. He finds good solutions on the field with his vision. He has good mentality and spirit.
“Of course, he’s young but he’s learning very quickly. Arsenal with Alex Iwobi and Alex Iwobi with Arsenal have a good future.”
