Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has joined in the shower of accolades and encomiums on The Gunners’ outgoing goalkeeper, Petr Cech, who is set to retire at the end of this season.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Iwobi is shocked to hear 36-year-old Cech is set to hang up his gloves, as he believes the Czech Republic icon can still carry on.
Iwobi said Cech’s decision to retire surprised him, as he reckons that the keeper could have played another four years.
The former Chelsea shot-stopper said he will quit active football at the end of this season, saying it felt like the right time, following 20 years as a professional, but Iwobi believes Cech could have carried on.
Iwobi said at the NBA London Game 2019: “I was [surprised] because he always looks good in training and every time he plays in a match.
“When he announced he was retiring I was like ‘wow, you could have another three or four years the way that you’re playing’.
“But we have to respect his decision and we’ll have to do our best to make sure he ends his career on a high.”
