Iwobi, Onazi, Odey, Awaziem headlines Nigerian players on Wednesday duties

Date:

A 36th minute goal from Lorenzo Venuti was enough for Lecce as they beat Crotone 1 – 0 in the Italian Serie B while Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo failed to hit the target on Wednesday night.

The 2018 World Cup star played all 90 minutes for the former Seria A side but was unable to give his team the needed goal to stay in the encounter. Simy Nwankwo has scored two goals for the Italian club this season.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi replaced Emile Smith-Rowe in the 73rd minute of Arsenal’s 2 – 1 win over Blackpool in the round of 16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Iwobi was one of the players introduced by Unai Emery for solidity after Matteo Guendouzi was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 56th minute.

In Turkey, after being snubbed from the Super Eagles list released by Gernot Rohr to face South Africa on November 15, Nigerian midfielder sat 90 minutes on the bench as Trabzonspor beat Bugsasspor 2 – 0 in the Turkish Cup round of 32.

In Switzerland, Nigerian international Stephen Odey failed to extend his goal tally as he failed to score in FC Zurich’s 3 – 2 win over Red Star Zurich away from home. Odey saw 90 minutes of action. Salim Khelifi opened the scoring for FC Zurich in the 2nd minute while Assan Ceesay’s brace in the 5th and 27th minute put the game to rest.

Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem played all 90 minutes in FC Porto’s 4 – 2 home win against second division Varzim in the Portuguese League Cup on Wednesday.

Awaziem was yellow carded in the 23rd minute of the match while his compartroit Stanley Awurum playing for Varzim was a 59th minute substitute for Cameroonian Jacques Haman.
