Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has come out with a bold declaration that would prefer to be lined out in a playmaker’s position for the Super Eagles.
After a very poor outing down the Eagles’ left-wing in their opening group match against Croatia, Iwobi lost his spot in the starting line-up, but the Gunners’ former under21 team captain says he would do better playing through the middle.
The Hale End Academy product admitted that he struggled during Nigeria’s first match in Kaliningrad, but said he will only wait for another opportunity, as long as the team keep winning.
Iwobi stated: ”The number ten position is where I have grown up playing, when I play out wide it is normally to sacrifice to help the team but anywhere I am told to play I don’t mind.
”I didn’t do well against Croatia, it was a hard game for everyone, Iceland I came on and I did my best but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how I do as long as the team does well.
”When you step on the pitch, they are players like us so we will forget about the stars and the names.
”At the end of the day we have a job to do, we will forget who we are playing against. We have played against people like Modric, we’ve played against Sigurðsson.”
