Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi will hope for another outing with the Super Eagles against Iceland on Friday, in order to impress his parents, who have arrived in Volgograd, Russia.
Iwobi was generally adjudged to have put up a surprisingly shoddy show in Nigeria’s first match of the competition, in which they lost 2-0 to Croatia, but would now hope that the presence of his parents at the venue of Friday’s match would make a world of difference for him, if he gets to play.
This is sequel to reports that his father, Chuka, mother, Amaka, and sister, Marie, arrived in Volgograd via an Aeroflot flight from Moscow on Wednesday night, ahead of their son’s World Cup game against Iceland on Friday.
They will be cheering for their son in a game that the Super Eagles need at least a draw in order to keep alive their 2018 World Cup hopes.
Nigeria lost 2-0 against Croatia in their opening game in Kaliningrad last Saturday with many fans scolding Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr for deploying Alex in a winger’s role.
However, the Franco-German gaffer praised the 22-year-old Gunners’ lad for maintaining a balance between his offensive and defensive play.
