Startling information out of Italy indicates that Joel Chukwuma Obi’s spot at Chievo Verona had already been taken over by a new player, even before his transfer to Alayanspor of Turkey was confirmed.
Obi headed into transfer deadline on the back of a possible deal at the former club of Kenneth Omeruo in the Turkish Super Lig, only for the team to sensationally reveal their signing of Lucas Piazon from Chelsea.
The arrival of the youthful midfielder from Stamford Bridge was a clear indication that Chievo had already lined up a replacement for Obi, even before confirming his relocation to Turkey.
Adding further drama to the deal, Piazon disclosed that he decided to join Chievo after snubbing an offer from Obi’s immediate past former club, AS Torino, who still have Ola Aina on their cards.
However, the man replacing Obi at The Flying Donkeys is not in on a permanent transfer, as he will only play on loan till June.
Nonetheless, Piazon declared: “Yes, I’m happy. In football everything is possible, I am here to help.
“I had the dream of playing in Serie A, I’m happy to have arrived, now I just think about training and playing.”
