Joel Obi To Welcome New Coach At Chievo

Date:

Chievo Verona of Italy midfielder, Joel Chukwuma Obi is set to welcome a new coach at his Serie A club, following report s that former Italy boss, Giampiero Ventura is set to take over The Flying Donekys’ mantle.

Footballlive.ng gathered that Venture is returning to football to take over Joel Obi’s club, and is expected to be confirmed as Chievo coach after their dismissal of Lorenzo D’Anna.

Obi should make himself ready to learn new tactics under Ventura, as the gaffer has already put pen to paper on a two-year deal for his first job since he was fired as Italy coach in November 2017.

It is now left to be seen how Ventura will save Obi’s team from relegation, as the coach failed to get Italy to the 2018 World Cup, losing the play-off to Sweden.

The 70-year-old replaces D’Anna, who was dismissed with Chievo rooted to the foot of the table, following a run of four consecutive defeats.

Ventura arrives to handle Obi et al at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi along with his assistant Salvatore Sullo and fitness coach Alessandro Innocenti.

Chievo, who host Atalanta in their first match after the international break, are on minus-one points after being docked three points in September for false accounting.

A club statement read: “To Mr Ventura and his staff, from all of Chievo, the warmest welcome and good luck for the work to be done.”
