Super Eagles duo Joel Obi and his William Troost-Ekong were stand out performers for their respective sides in the Serie A game between Chievo and Udinese on Sunday.
Obi proved the pass master and both showed their aerial prowess, but it was Udinese who walked away with maximum points from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
Chievo were rooted bottom in the league table – ducked points for financial irregularities – before kick off, and needed a win to bring some sunshine to their camp.
But the Bianconeri Friuliani had no joy in them and try as the home side did to lock them out, they finally saw blood on 76 minutes.
They came back for more on the stroke of 90 minutes, by which time Chievo Manager, Lorenzo D’Anna, had sacrificed Obi for 39-year-old forward Sergio Pellissier in search of the leveler – that will never come.
The Nigerians rated highly for their sides; especially Obi, who was the best player in the colors of Chievo.
Obi ranked third in the number of tackles won, second in aerial duels and despite playing only 79 minutes was third best player in keeping possession.
Meanwhile, the victory shot Udinese to 7th in the table and within a point of catching Wednesday’s opponent Lazio, who are in 5th spot.
