Former Super Eagles coach José Peseiro has asserted that Ademola Lookman is technically superior to African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen.
Peseiro, who managed the Super Eagles from May 2022 to February 2024, left the role after his contract expired following Nigeria’s silver medal win at the Africa Cup of Nations in February.
In an interview with Italian football news outlet SportItalia, Peseiro praised Lookman, highlighting his technical prowess. Lookman recently made history as the first African player to score a hat-trick in a European final, with his three goals against unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen securing Atalanta’s first Europa League title.
On the other hand, Victor Osimhen has established himself as a legendary striker for Napoli, playing a pivotal role in their first Serie A title in 33 years.
During the 2022/23 season, Osimhen scored 26 goals and provided 5 assists in 32 Serie A matches.
“Ademola is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create the game, and who is now also scoring.” Peseiro said.
“He is performing very well this year. He grew up with (Atalanta manager) Gian Piero Gasperini; now he is always playing, and we are happy with him. At a high level, he, too, can aspire to do great things.”
Peseiro added, “It’s no coincidence that they’ve both grown this year. This is because they’re both within a good system of play.”
The future of both players remains uncertain as they are currently exploring potential moves to new clubs this season.
