Sunderland striker, Josh Maja has attracted attention for a January transfer deal at Newcastle United.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Maja could be the next Nigerian player, after the Ameobi brothers, Shola and Sammy, as well as Celestine Babayaro and Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins, to star for The Magpies.
This is sequel to reports at the weekend that Toon have joined Crystal Palace in the race to hook the free-scoring former Super Eagles invitee, with a deal expected to be sealed early this month.
Though it initially appeared that Palace were billed to hook Maja later this week, following failed bids with Victor Moses, Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke, Newcastle have joined the battle for his signature.
Sunderland are ready to sell Maja this month, after he has refused to sign a new deal, but The Black Cats will now have to consider offers from Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town.
Maja put himself in the shop window courtesy of his 15 goals across all competitions for Sunderland and is valued in the region of five million pounds, which Newcastle look ready to cough out for him.
