Sunderland attacker, Josh Maja has become the latest player of Nigerian descent to catch the attention of Crystal Palace, as the London-based English Premier League club aim to get busy in the January transfer window.
After missing out deals for Victor Moses, Dominic Solanke and Tammy Abraham, footballlive.ng can report that The Eagles have turned to free-scoring Maja as their next option from Nigeria.
So soon after Maja opted out of the possibility of extending his stay with Sunderland on Friday, Palace emerged as early favourites to sign the striker.
The 20-year-old Maja comes off contract with The Black Cats at the end of the season but is set to leave The Stadium of Light this month after rejecting a new deal offered by the club.
In the wake of Maja’s decision to rebuff a deadline fixed for Friday by the club for him to accept their terms, Sunderland are now looking to recoup their previous investment in the player.
That has left the door open for Palace to step in, although Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City are also said to be monitoring Maja’s situation, with a view to snapping him up from the League One side.
Maja has been in blistering form this season, scoring 15 goals across all competitions, including 14 in the League One and the former Super Eagles invitee, who has played for the youth teams of Fulham and Manchester City in the past, is wanted back at the outfit when he once plied his trade as a kid.
