Sunderland of England striker, Josh Maja will have to shake off a bout with flu quickly, in order for him to stand any chance of tying down a deal in the January transfer window.
Maja has been bent on leaving The Stadium of Light this month, much to the chagrin of Sunderland, who footballllive.ng gathered are determined to keep him.
However, with the star refusing to respond to a deadline extended him to sign a new deal, as he opted to take his chances in the winter transfer market, The Black Cats appeared resigned to losing Maja.
However, Sunderland’s prayers appear to be taking shape, as Maja last weekend bowed to illness, which observers fear might cause him to fail any medicals that come his way at an espied suitor this week.
In what could be akin to Dominic Solanke’s plight at Crystal Palace, Maja is now in a race against time to put himself back into contention to pass any medical test thrown at him.
Tottenham Hotspur have joined a host of English Premier League clubs in the hunt for the 20-year-old Maja’s signature, following earlier interest from Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City.
Maja, who is valued in the region of five million pounds, will be out of contract with Sunderland at the end of this season, but he wants to leave as early as this month.
However, the blistering striker, who has 15 goals across all competitions this season, was missing against Luton Town on Saturday due to illness.
