South African club Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been halted by the player’s hefty price tag.
Reports from South Africa indicate that despite keen interest in the shot-stopper, Kaizer Chiefs cannot afford his R30 million (approximately £1.3 million) transfer fee.
The 27 years old’s performance for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations attracted attention from several clubs, including Saudi club El-Ettifaq and Sky Bet Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers.
However, Kaizer Chiefs, once among the suitors, have reportedly withdrawn from negotiations due to the financial constraints posed by Nwabali’s price tag.
“Kaizer Chiefs, once showing strong interest in Nwabali, are rumoured to have stepped back from any potential deal due to his hefty R30 million price tag,” according to sources.
“However, if Amakhosi are genuinely committed to reshaping their fortunes and bolstering their squad with notable talent, they should consider investing in players like Nwabali, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Itumeleng Khune’s future.”
Rumors have it that investing in players like Nwabali could be beneficial for Kaizer Chiefs, particularly amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Itumeleng Khune, the club’s current goalkeeper.
Stanley Nwabali still has two years remaining on his contract with Chippa United, adding further complexity to potential transfer negotiations.
