Girondins-Bordeaux of France summer signing, Samuel Kalu will gain a spot in the Super Eagles’ list from various issues affecting two players with similar names, as the retirement of Victor Moses and repeated injuries for Moses Simon have paved a way for him.
As expectations continue to spread over Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr’s latest list of invitees this week, Kalu has been highly placed to fill in for both wingers, with his summer move to Ligue 1 adding more flesh to his credentials.
This much has been affirmed by Rohr, who said he has been monitoring Kalu and is bound to try him out in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles next month.
The explosive winger, with great pace, joined Bordeaux from KAA Gent of Belgium this summer in an 8 million Euro deal, but Rohr said he has kept his eyes on Kalu for a while.
Since arriving in France, the 20-year-old Kalu has played just once for Bordeaux, in a 2-1 loss away to FC Toulouse last weekend, but he lasted the entire duration of the game.
His abilities to score and create made him a super regular at Gent last season, in which he netted seven goals and gave nine assists.
Rohr is expected to name his squad billed for the September 8 fixture away to Seychelles this week and the Franco-German gaffer has confirmed that Kalu is on his mind to fill in as winger down the right flank.
“Kalu will probably be in the squad. I have been watching him and I saw him play again this week,” Rohr disclosed.
