English League One side, Barnsley have completed the signing of Nigerian midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali from Portuguese club GD Chaves for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year old signed a three-year contract with Oakwell from Portugal second tier team, where he scored a goal and provided four assists.
Nwakali said, “I am very happy to sign for Barnsley Football Club. After speaking with Mladen and the head coach Darrell earlier this summer, I knew this was an exciting opportunity, and I know I can bring a lot to the team.”
Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz added, “Kelechi is a talented player who offers something different. His experience in top European leagues will benefit us. We’ll ease him into first-team action over the coming weeks.”
This is the second time Kelechi Nwakali will play for an English side team after joining Arsenal in 2016 before leaving to join for Spanish sides SD Huesca in 2019 and then Ponferradina before joining Chaves last year.
Barnsley began their 2024-25 campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Mansfield last weekend.
