Real Madrid star, Kylian Mbappé is poised to become the majority owner of French second division club Stade Malherbe de Caen according to reports.
The 25-year-old’s takeover will make him the youngest active player to own a professional European football club.
Mbappé will invest approximately €15 million through his Coalition Capital investment fund to acquire 80% of the club’s capital and will also help pay off part of the club’s debt.
He will replace the American investment fund Oaktree, which has held the majority share since 2020. The remaining 20% of the club is owned by Pierre Antoine Capton, president of the club’s supervisory board.
Mbappé almost joined the club as a teenager before signing with Monaco in 2014.
Caen, currently competing in Ligue 2 after their relegation in 2019, will announce Ziad Hammoud as their new president. Hammoud, a close friend of Mbappé and in charge of his image rights company, is expected to bring in other allies of the France captain to fill key positions at the club.
While it’s not yet clear how much more Mbappé will invest or what his ambitions are for the club, his takeover is expected to be announced soon. Caen will begin their Ligue 2 season on August 17 against Paris FC.
Kylian Mbappé is expected debut for Real Madrid in the European Super Cup against Atalanta and ahead of Real Madrid’s opening LaLiga match against Mallorca.
