Manchester United has confirmed that defender Leny Yoro will be out of action for approximately three months following successful surgery on a foot injury.
The 18-year-old defender sustained the injury during a preseason friendly against Arsenal in Los Angeles last week, where he was substituted early along with forward Rasmus Højlund, who is sidelined for six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
“Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months,” the club stated.
Leny Yoro, who was signed from Ligue 1 side Lille for £52 million on a five-year contract in July, had suffered a fractured metatarsal earlier this month, necessitating the operation.
This development is a setback for manager Erik ten Hag, who attributed injuries as a major factor in United’s disappointing campaign last season, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League.
The club was already looking to strengthen their defense before Yoro’s injury and will likely intensify their search now. Among the potential targets are Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, as well as Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
