Nigeria International, Leon Balogun furmly supports his teammate Cyriel Dessers, who has faced criticism despite scoring a crucial equalizer in Rangers’ Champions League qualifying campaign.
The Nigerian attacker has received a lot of criticism throughout his time in Scotland, even though he scored 22 goals in his first season at Ibrox.
The critique continued after 29-year-old wasted opportunities in both Tuesday’s Champions League first-leg qualifying match against Dynamo Kyiv and Saturday’s goalless draw with Heart of Midlothian.
Dessers, who found the net in the 94th minute against Dynamo Kyiv to keep Rangers’ hopes alive, addressed the criticism by stating that his focus remains on doing his job for the team.
“I don’t have to answer people; I’m just doing my job for the team, for the manager, and for myself. That’s the only thing that matters,” Dessers said.
Leon Balogun, responding to the criticism aimed at Dessers, spoke the striker’s proven ability to score goals.
“I think he’s scored quite a number of goals for us already, and the season just started last weekend. I looked at him last season, and I think he scored quite a significant number of goals, so I am confident,” Balogun remarked.
