Lionel Messi has set new records in international football, surpassing both Brazilian icons Cafu and Roberto Carlos by reaching his seventh international final with Argentina in the Copa America 2024.
This record breaks the previous record of six international final held by the two Brazilian Legends.
Lionel Messi has now become the second-highest all-time international goal scorer, overtaking Iran’s Ali Daei with 109 goals, just behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s 130.
Messi matched Daei’s 108 goals with a double against Guatemala right before the Copa America started and then scored again in Argentina’s 2-0 semi-final victory over Canada, with teammate Julian Alvarez also scoring.
Argentina will officially face Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final at Miami Gardens after defeating Uruguay 1-0 on Thursday.
