Lobi Stars Will Progress In Champions League – Matthias

Lobi Stars’ attacker, Samuel Matthias is picking positives from his lone goal that cut his side’s defeat to 3-1 away to Gor Mahia of Kenya in the CAF Champions League first round, first, and footballlive.ng reports he is confident of his side going further in the competition.

 

After netting a consolation goal for the Middle Belt side with as header, Matthias is optimistic that the Nigerian champions will consolidate on the away goal to send Gor Mahia packing in the return leg this Saturday.

Despite falling in Nairobi, courtesy a brace of goals by Sammy Onyango and one from Jacques Tuyisenge, Matthias stressed that Lobi Stars will reach the group stage of the Champions League.

He declared: “We have the team to do this and we are determined to achieve this target by beating Gor Mahia in Enugu.”

The overall winners will qualify for the money-spinning stage of the elite clubs’ competition, and Lobi Stars midfielder, Kelly Kester added that he is also sure his team will make progress in the competition.

Kester, though, admitted the Makurdi side will have to be up and doing in the reverse fixture this weekend in The Coal City, as he acknowledged they need two clear goals in order to qualify.

“We scored a very important away goal and we controlled the second half and should have even scored more goals then. We need two clear goals to qualify,” Kester concluded.
