Lookman Gets England Senior Cap Hint From Southgate

Date:

Everton of England winger, Ademola Lookman may end up committing himself to an international future with England, as The Three Lions gaffer, Gareth Southgate is set to convince the lad against switching allegiance to Nigeria.

In the wake of recent reports that Lookman, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig of Germany, could be on his way to starring for the Super Eagles, Southgate disclosed that the lad is being encouraged not to follow that step.

In the face of rising reports that Lookman could switch to where he is assured of regular playing time at senior international level, Southgate said he is aware of the youngster’s strides at England’s youth level.

The former Middlesbrough gaffer went on to declare that he believes the youngster has a great future ahead of him with The Three Lions as well.

Lookman has already played for England youth teams in official matches, and recently started for The Young Lions in a European U21 Championship qualifier against Latvia, after which Southgate has now hinted the lad should get an accelerated promotion.

”I know every country is quite aggressive in their recruiting and I know they have always had an interest in him, but he is playing and has been in our squads, the 20s, 21s.

”So in terms of encouragement through game time, we are doing as much as we possibly can,” Southgate submitted.
