Lookman’s Atalanta Take Another Step Towards Europe

Date:

Atalanta staged a comeback to secure a vital 2-1 victory against Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi, keeping their European aspirations alive while condemning the hosts to relegation.

The home side, Salernitana, took the lead in the 18th minute when Loum Tchaouna found the back of the net, assisted by Emanuel Vignato, igniting hopes of a crucial upset. However, Atalanta responded with determination, as Gianluca Scamacca restored parity in the 57th minute, connecting with Mario Pasalic to level the score.

The visitors completed their turnaround just six minutes later, as Teun Koopmeiners capitalized on the momentum, firing Atalanta into the lead with a well-taken goal in the 63rd minute.

Despite Salernitana’s efforts to salvage a point, Atalanta held firm to clinch a crucial victory, ensuring their pursuit of European qualification remains on track.

Ademola Lookman was involved for 84 minutes in the encounter. The Nigerian winger had 4 shots, and had just one of them on target. The forward had an off day, missing two big chances in the game to put his name on the goalscorers sheet.

With the win, Atalanta maintains their grip on fifth place in the Serie A standings, accumulating 60 points from 34 games played. On the other hand, Salernitana’s relegation fate is sealed, as they languish at the bottom of the table with only 15 points from 35 games, ending their Serie A campaign on a disappointing note.
