Former Super falcon, Maureen Madu has said that it doesn’t matter that the falcons lost a friendly game. The Nigerian ladies lost a friendly game against Canada 1-0, as they continue to prepare for the 2024 Olympics set to kickstart on the 26th of July.
Madu mentioned that the team also lost friendlies before they went to last year’s world cup, and the team did well at the tournament.
“Like the time during the World Cup, they prepared and they lost all their games. Everybody was saying that they are not going to do well. It’s better for a team to lose in the friendly match than to lose in the main competition. Because if the team lose in the friendly match, that is where the coach will have that plan, what he wants to do or not. Because if they keep winning in the friendly match, it will make the players, it will get into their head”, explained Madu.
She added that friendly losses show that the coach and the team what areas need to improved upon, and it helps propel momentum.
“And secondly, It will also give the coaches the opportunity to be able to find out where they have the problem. So now that they lost, it’s going to give them that momentum to know that what they are going to face in the Olympics is going to be tough. So, we cannot judge them based on the match they lost against Canada. We also have to judge them based on the competition. So, losing against Canada is not a problem, though Nigeria wants to get a win but it’s not a problem”, she added.
The faclcons shall begin their Olympic charge against Brazil on Thursday, at the Matmut Atlantique ion Bordeaux.
