Maja Believes Bordeaux Will Improve His Game

Date:

Girondins-Bordeaux of France January signing, Josh Maja has enthused that he has a great opportunity of building his career and improving his form by playing regularly in the French Ligue 1.

Before leaving Sunderland to join Samuel Kalu at Bordeaux last month, Maja was top scorer with the lower division side, but footballlive.ng ,learnt he is thinking of doing even better at his new base.

Maja, who was once invited for a game with the Super Eagles but failed to turn up, says the desire for improvements in his game spurred him to take up the challenge of playing in France, and urged young players in England to follow suit.

The 20-year-old Maja, who played for Crystal Palace and Fulham’s youths before joining Sunderland on a two-year scholarship in the north east of England urged opined that players need to step out of the comfort zone.

The Black Cats’ immediate past top scorer and free-scoring hitman, who signed a professional contract in 2016, says he is confident that his move to Bordeaux is best for his career.

Maja said: “There’s a lot of English talent out there and they’re not being seen because everyone’s staying in the Premier League for too long.

“They’re maybe not getting that opportunity. I think for young players, going abroad is a good opportunity.

“I’ve got four-and-a-half years here, all that time to settle in and develop and improve as a player. I’m pleased to be here.

“Obviously it’s one of the top five leagues in the world. If I do half of what I did for Sunderland, I think people will take notice.”
