Manchester United in Talks to Loan Mason Greenwood to Marseille

Date:

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Marseille regarding a loan deal for Mason Greenwood, with an option for a permanent transfer.

The 22-year old striker spent last season on loan at Getafe in Spain, where he scored 10 goals in 36 appearances.

Greenwood was expected to return to United for preseason training this week as his contract still has 12 months remaining.
However, he was at United’s Carrington training ground on Monday for discussions with the new football leadership team focused on finding him a new club. Greenwood did not participate in training.

Mason Greenwood has been absent from United’s lineup since January 2022 following his suspension after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. Charges were later dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 due to insufficient evidence, but United have decided to seek a new team for him regardless.

While Getafe showed interest in a permanent deal, United reportedly seek at least £20 million for Greenwood. Other clubs, including Juventus, Atlético Madrid, and Lazio, have shown interest, but Marseille has emerged as the frontrunner with a firm offer.

Discussions between United and Marseille are progressing, though the fee and terms remain undisclosed.
