Club Brugge and Belgium football legend, Marc Degryse is displeasure with Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika for his reaction after being substituted during his team’s 2-1 win over Westerlo.
Onyedika, a regular for Brugge this season, has contributed one assist, but his performance on Saturday drew heavy criticism.
Onyedika provided the assist for Jorne Spillers’ early opener just four minutes into the match at Het Kuipje.
Hans Vanaken extended Brugge’s lead twenty minutes later, but an error from Onyedika allowed Westerlo to reduce the deficit.
In the 81st minute, head coach Nicky Hayden substituted the Nigerian international, but Onyedika showed clear frustration with the decision, a move that did not sit well with Degryse.
“On Saturday in Westerlo, I found his performance to be outrageous. It was just over the top. So nonchalant.”
“I know coaches who would have replaced Raphael Onyedika after twenty minutes. I think a coach or even a board should make it clear to Onyedika that a match like this at Westerlo was unacceptable.”
”And then he was still angry when he was substituted. I have never seen anything like that from a player who plays in the ‘6′ position.”
Club Brugge are currently sitting in 4th place on the Belgian Pro League table, seven points behind league leaders Genk.
