Bayelsa United’s head coach, Meremu Okara, has attributed his team’s 1-0 loss to Abia Warriors to a lapse in concentration during the crucial moments of the game. Despite his team’s commendable performance throughout the match, Okara expressed disappointment at the outcome, suggesting that his players deserved at least a point from the encounter.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Okara lamented the unfortunate result, stating, “The result didn’t reflect the game because the better side lost, which is very painful. After playing so well and controlling the game, it’s disheartening to lose to a last-minute mistake from one of our defenders.”
He continued, “Bayelsa United lost due to that last-minute loss of concentration. We had numerous scoring opportunities, but we failed to capitalize on them.”
Reflecting on the match, Okara emphasized the importance of converting chances into goals, especially in tightly contested games where the margin for error is minimal.
Bayelsa United currently occupy the 15th position on the Nigeria Premier Football League table. However, their final standing is pending the outcome of the remaining matchday 31 fixtures, which are scheduled to be decided later on Sunday.
