FC Porto of Portugal fringe player, Mikel Ndubuisi Agu could become the next Nigerian player to star for Olympique Marseille of France, following a link with the club at the weekend.
Marseille have a history of days spent in their squad by Muritala Alaba Agboola, Wilson Oruma, Victor Okechukwu Agali and Taye Ismaila Taiwo, but those long lost memories are bound to be revived by Agu.
This follows reports indicating that Agu is set to quit Porto to joined the French Ligue 1 club, as he has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Portuguese giants side.
Porto have opted to force him out, after spending last season on loan at Bursaspor of Turkey, where the 25-year-old made 24 appearances and scored three goals.
Agu wants to leave Porto, if he is not guaranteed regular playing time, and is now looking toward Stade Velodrome for a season-long loan before taking a possible option of making it permanent next summer.
Agu, who has spent successive loan periods at Club Brugge, Vitoria Setubal and Bursaspor, since rising through the youth ranks at Porto, is eyeing a return to the Super Eagles, after missing the World Cup, despite getting named in Nigeria’s preliminary squad.
