Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is happy that the Nigerian team’s captain, John Mikel Obi is once again playing top football, and believes the star’s form at Middlesbrough of England can help him spur the national side to success at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Footballlive.ng can report that Rohr is excited seeing Mikel line out for Boro, since his January arrival, after terminating his contract at Tianjin Teda of China, and the Franco-German tactician expects a revival to the skipper’s personal and collective form.
Rohr, though, acknowledged that Mikel will have to be in peak fitness level for him to marshal the Eagles well, but believes being able to play regularly with Middlesbrough would help the star stay in top shape.
The former coach of Niger Republic, Gabon and Burkina Faso added that he will love to see all the Eagles’ players lining out out regularly for top clubs, which he posited would make them better in the national team.
He concluded by singling out Mikel as the leader, hence his optimism that playing for Middlesbrough will keep the skipper in peak shape and make him stay focused on the task of leading Nigeria to AFCON 2019 glory this summer in The Land of The Pharaohs.
Rohr stressed: “We are happy to see our captain now playing for a big club. We hope to see him fit and playing regularly.
“TRhat’s what we want for all players. They should keep playing well with their teams and keep doing well.
“With Mikel playing in a tough league, maybe he can help Nigeria win the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”
