Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi has doused growing concern over his injury status, as he insists he will be fit to star for the Super Eagles against Seychelles.
With the Eagles’ next Africa Cup of Nations billed away in Seychelles on September 8, Nigerians are worried that the team’s captain will not be fit for the game, but, despite missing action with his club at the weekend, Mikel said he will soon be back playing.
Mikel said he is staying focused on getting back to full fitness and stressed that he is on course to return to the field within a week or two, which would make him available to play the AFCON 2019 qualifier.
There have been doubts that the Eagles’ captain may miss the clash with Seychelles, but he has come out to reassure that he will be very much available and stated that he will be ready to play the game on September 8.
Mikel affirmed: “I’m getting better already and trying to get back into fitness before I start playing again; hopefully in a week or two, I will return to the field of play.
“For the game against Seychelles next month, I’m confident I will be fit before then but for now I just want to focus on getting back to full fitness.”
