Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi has brushed aside all talk about a possible winter market transfer coming his way, as he says all he is thinking about now is to achieve an exciting year for club and country.
Mikel is already back in training with his Chinese Super League club, and dismissed talk about a possible move to Fenerbahce, as he stated on social media that he is only thinking of having a better season with Teda and help the Super Eagles do well at the World Cup.
Mikel helped Tianjin Teda escape relegation with 13 league appearances in his debut season and, while hoping for a better run this time out, he also has his eyes on doing well for Nigeria.
He will make the short journey from China to join the Nigerian squad in Russia, where he will be aiming to lead the three-time African Cup of Nations champions to glory at the World Cup in June/July.
This is in contrast with a new report over the weekend, which stated that the 30-year-old was set to sign a contract at Fenerbahce, worth €3-million per year till June 2020.
“Pre season with Tianjin TEDA. Hard work for the new season and an exciting year ahead,” Mikel posted on Instagram.
