Middlesbrough of England midfielder, John Mikel Obi has found another feather added to his cap, as the Super Eagles captain, who only joined the club last month, has been named to the English Championship best 11 list for the past weekend of matches.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Mikel, who moved to The Riverside in the January transfer window, after severing his contract with Tianjin Teda of China gained entry into the latest classification of English Championship Team of The Week on the strength of his form against Blackburn Rovers.
It was only Mikel’s fourth appearance for Boro, but the former Lyn Oslo of Norway and Chelsea of England ace put up such an outstanding display that earned cheers from his team’s fans and plaudits from pundits.
Mikel’s efforts in that game helped Middlesbrough to a 1-0 victory, which took the squad into the Championship promotion playoff zone with 54 points from 32 games.
‘The Catalyst’ will hope to continue in top form when Middlesbrough host Eberechi Eze and Osayi-Samuel’s Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
He will be buoyed by the euphoria of being in the Championship best 11 alongside Morecambe’s Mark Halstead, Notts County’s Sam Stubbs and Ben Barclay, as well as Preston North End’s Ben Davies.
Also joining Mikel in the list are MK Dons’ Jake Hesketh, Luton Town’s George Moncur, Sheffield United’s Gary Madine, Southend United’s Simon Cox as well as Norwich City duo of Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia.
