Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi is mourning the slump that has seen his former club, Chelsea on the verge of not making the English Premier League top-four this season, and will thus miss out on the UEFA Champions League.
Mikel shot his mind back to the glory days he enjoyed with The Blues, which he says goes back to as many as eight years, and hinted that their downturn in fortunes makes him sad, as he says it is a far cry from the glory days they had when he first won the title with the London-based club.
Mikel, who moved to Tianjin Teda last summer and was afterwards made captain of the team, has made 19 appearances for the Chinese Super League club and has two goals to show for his efforts with the side.
However, the Super Eagles captain, who joined Chelsea in 2006, spending 11 seasons and making over 200 appearances, further noted that he cannot forget the beautiful days and glorious memories he had at Chelsea.
Mikel wrote on his Instagram handle, with a picture of him lifting the English Premier League trophy: “8 years since the 8-0 that got us the Premier League trophy.”
