Super Eagles captain and Middlesbrough of England midfielder John Obi Mikel have vowed to continue fighting in order to ensure that his team gain promotion to the English Premier League next season.
Mikel joined the Boro in the winter transfer market as a free agent and has been involved in the team outing three times since joining getting two draws and a win and on Saturday clocked his first 90 minutes for the club in a 1 – 1 home draw to table toppers Leeds United.
After spending two years away from European football moving to Chinese Super League modest club Tianjin TEDA from Chelsea after being declared surplus to requirement the Eagles skipper returned to English football with a move to Boro stating that the team’s ambition of returning to the EPL is his major reason for joining.
Mikel’s first league appearance was in a 3 – 2 away win against EPL promotion hopefuls Westbrom and to intensify their promotion push they must remain resilient by churning in the needed wins against the top clubs.
After their matchday 30 home draw against Leeds Mikel took to his Instagram handle to encourage the fans and players that the team will keep fighting until the end. He wrote; “Keep fighting”
Middlesbrough’s next match is an away trip to 3rd placed Sheffield United on Wednesday. Sheffield United is currently five points ahead of the Boro and will be hoping to amass all three points in the game.
