KAA Gent of Belgium winger, Moses Simon may end up settling for a summer switch to SV Mainz 05 of Germany, following several hurdles he has faced in his bid to join their fellow-German Bundesliga side, VfL Wolfsburg.
Though the move to Wolfsburg initially appeared certain for the former SK Trencin of Slovakia star, certain bottleneck issues stalled the deal, and he may now have to make do with the club Super Eagles defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun played for last season.
A move to Mainz would see Simon link forces in attack with another Nigerian striker, Anthony Ujah, who has hit top scoring form in pore-season with the club, and Mainz appear eager to snatch the petit winger from Gent.
Mainz have made a strong interest in Simon known to Gent and are willing to pay a little over €10m for the winger, who missed out on a chance to feature for Nigeria at the World Cup due to injury.
Simon has year left on his contract at Gent and, though he reportedly had interest from the EPL quartet of Liverpool, Brighton Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, he may have to settle for Mainz, the only ones to make a formal bid for his signature.
