Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon, has been awarded FC Nantes’ Player of the Month for August 2024.
The 23-year-old scored two goals in three matches for the French club, including strikes against AJ Auxerre and in a 3-1 victory over Montpellier.
Simon secured 43% of the votes, surpassing teammates Alban Lafont, Matthis Abline, and Nathan Zézé.
Strong Start to the Season
Simon has played in every game for Nantes since the beginning of this season, racking up 237 minutes in France’s top-flight Ligue 1.
He helped Nantes secure their first win of the season on August 25 against Auxerre, ending a streak of nine successive home defeats.
Simon will receive his Player of the Month award on September 15, 2024, before Nantes’ home match against Stade de Reims at La Beaujoire Stadium.
Meanwhile, he looks to carry his strong club form into Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Benin in Uyo.
Moses Simon missed Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying matches against Benin and South Africa in June 2024 due to an injury sustained during a friendly match against Mali.
Nantes coach Antoine Koumbouare earlier hailed his decision to retain Simon, calling it one of the club’s best moves.
Koumbouare said, “My best recruitment was to keep Blas, Kolo Muani, and Moses Simon. We then had a great season, winning the Coupe de France. I’m not saying we will do the same thing, but keeping players like Moses is crucial for our success.”
