Former Akwa United of Uyo youngster, Alhassan Ibrahim (Muazzam) has moved from Austria Wien to Maritimo of Portugal on a permanent transfer till the summer of 2021.
‘Muazzam’ played on loan in Austria last season, but a change in coach of the team made the Vinnea-based club drop the option of making his deal permanent.
He was the star of the Golden Eaglets of 2013 during the early stage of camping, but spate of injuries kept him out of the squad that produced Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Francis Uzoho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success and Chidiebere Nwakali.
Despite his failure to play for the U17 he was among the players who made the step up to the U20s, where he won the African Youth Championship with the squad in Senegal but missed out on a spot in the team for the World Youth Championship.
‘Muazzam’ has been called up to the main Super Eagles, for who he got his debut against Togo in a friendly, which the Nigerian team won 3-0.
However, he is yet to get a lift into the Eagles’ mainstream, despite being a regular for the B-team and played in their last friendly against Europa League winners, Atletico Madrid of Spain in Uyo.
