CSKA Moscow of Russia attacker, Ahmed Musa has declared that he will not relax after his double-goal heroics against Iceland, as he aims to score again against Argentina on Tuesday.
Musa, who also got a brace against the South Americans at Brazil 2014, says he is happy with his feat on Friday and believes he will replicate the feat in Nigeria’s last group match.
The last time he scored twice against Argentina, Nigeria lost 3-2, but Musa says it will be different on Tuesday, as he says the Musa is confident the team would not rest on their laurels at the moment and that the real celebrations would start if they come off with a positive result in their last group game on Tuesday.
Musa made his sixth World Cup appearance against Iceland, and took his tally in both tournaments to four goals with his brace, after which he said he loves breaking records and setting new ones.
The fleet-footed attacker, who is heading back to his parent club, Leicester City, once held the record for the most goals scored in a single season in the Nigerian Professional Football League before the record was bettered by Mfon Udoh.
He admitted he was overjoyed, after entering the Nigerian history books as their top scorer in World Cup history thanks to his brace against Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday evening.
The 25-year old Jos-born attacker is now looking forward to the Argentina game, an opposition he also scored twice against at this stage four years ago, and his duel with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
Musa retorted: ”For me, I am very good in breaking records. I feel very happy being the top scorer in the World Cup.
”I think scoring against Argentina is not that difficult for me, every game I take it step by step. If I’m going to score against Argentina, I am going to do that.
”For me and for the team we have to work very hard, we know the importance of the last game, it’s do or die. We have to win, we don’t have to lose, we have to go for a draw or win.
“It’s not that easy but I have to thank my teammates because they gave me all the support and my chief coach here because if he doesn’t believe in me he can’t put me on the pitch.
”I thank everybody for the support and we made everybody happy today for the win but we don’t have to think about the win, we have to focus on the last game, that is the most important now.”
