Former Udinese and Napoli striker, German Denis, shares his perspective on Victor Osimhen’s departure from Napoli, asserting that Romelu Lukaku is a more suitable option for Antonio Conte’s side.
Napoli has been on an impressive form and continues to dominate Serie A, topping the table before the international break.
Osimhen, who was expected to make a high-profile transfer to one of Europe’s elite clubs last summer, found himself sidelined after a deal fell through. Subsequently, Napoli secured Lukaku as his replacement.
The 25-year old forward has since joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a season-long loan, where he has made an immediate impact, scoring two goals and providing two assists in just three league appearances.
Denis stated his doubts about Osimhen’s fit within Conte’s tactical system.
“We saw a Lukaku in form, even if Conte knows perfectly well what he lacks. He is a Lukaku who is very generous; he plays for the team. Yesterday he made two assists as an attacking midfielder.”
“Napoli was built to win, the squad is large, and whoever is called upon always does well. This is important for a coach who knows he can count on the bench. This will make the difference.”
“I don’t know if Osimhen would have been as suitable for Napoli as Lukaku is with Conte. Napoli made the right choice.”
In a twist of fate, Osimhen is now facing a setback with a thigh injury that will keep him out of action for approximately six weeks, further complicating his return to form.
He also missed out on the Super Eagles squad list for the AFCON Qualifiers clash against Libya.
