Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has emphasized the team’s need to secure a victory as they prepare to face former coach Gernot Rohr’s Squirrels in the World Cup qualifiers.
Recall that Rohr coached the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, leading them to a third-place finish in 2019 before his departure just weeks before the start of AFCON 2021.
Currently at the helm of the Squirrels, Rohr will lead them against his former team today.
Following a 1-1 draw with South Africa in Uyo on Friday night, the Super Eagles find themselves in fifth place in Group C with 3 points from 3 matches.
Speaking ahead of the match, Leicester City player Ndidi remarked, “Gernot Rohr coached us for five years, but within those years, players are coming, players are going..”
“Facing him is actually a motivation because we know he’s a good coach, and we know he’s going to plan to win.
We approaching that game, we have to show him that he actually missed something in the team; that’s what we have to do now.”
The match will kick off at 5 pm today at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
