Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to keep Franco-German soccer tactician, Gernot Rohr as technical adviser of the Super Eagles, in spite of his inability to take the national team beyond the group stage of this year’s World Cup in Russia.
Though sports minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung also questioned Rohr’s tactical acumen during Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Argentina on Tuesday, a top official of the NFF said the coach has to be retained, because qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations will get back on course in September.
The top shot stressed that the limited time available before the AFCON 2019 race resumes makes it imperative that the NFF should allow continuity in the Eagles’ technical crew, but hinted that all players that were found uninspiring during the World Cup will be dropped.
In response to enquiries about the next line of action the football governing body would take over Rohr, the official said curtly: “The NFF will meet with the coaches of the team later next week to discuss the programme for the Africa of Nations Cup qualifiers.”
