Majin Mohammed, the caretaker coach of Niger Tornadoes, attributed his team’s loss to Enyimba to a lapse in concentration but also praised his players for their efforts during the game.
The Ikon Allah Boys suffered a 3-1 defeat against the defending champions in Aba on Sunday, with goals from Alade Balogun, Uche Collins, and Elijah Akanni securing the win for the hosts. Akintunde Azeez scored the consolation goal for Niger Tornadoes.
Speaking to the club media, Mohammed expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly in the first half, where they managed to prevent Enyimba from scoring. Despite the defeat, he acknowledged the effort put in by his players against a formidable opponent like Enyimba.
“I’m not disappointed with the performance considering our opponent,” Mohammed stated. “We didn’t come to Aba with the mentality to defend but to attack, but unfortunately, it was not a good day for us.”
Acknowledging Enyimba’s status as one of the best teams in the country, Mohammed emphasized the need to learn from the defeat and focus on the upcoming fixtures. He highlighted the importance of regrouping and planning for their next game against Shooting Stars.
“We lost against a more organised team, Enyimba, one of the best team in the country.
“Our next target is to go back home and plan for our next game against Shooting Stars.”
Niger Tornadoes dropped to 16th place on the log following the disappointing defeat, but Mohammed remains optimistic about their prospects moving forward.
