Monday, June 25 was the official ‘Nigeria Day’ at this year’s World Cup, as the country got the nod to showcase various aspects of tradition, hospitality and entertainment at Russia 2018 FIFA Football Festival in Moscow.
Nigeria House project co-ordinator at this year’s World Cup, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi said approval from the local organising committee paved the way for the display of music, culture, art and native food from the country at Red Square in Moscow.
Abdullahi disclosed that, following coordinated diplomacy and effective interaction, the 2018 World Cup local organizing committee in Russia approved the slot for Nigeria at the global football fiesta.
He enthused that soccer fans from across the world, Russians and other international visitors will have the opportunity to visit ‘Nigeria House,’ where a lot of activities have been lined up to showcase.
He also said Nigeria House had in collaboration with the country’s embassy in Russia been in close contact with the relevant authorities to put together the project to promote the nation’s image further.
Abdullahi added: “This is a very important and highly effective medium to showcase Nigeria’s heritage.
“Highlights of the programme on parade for the Nigeria Day will be Cultural Entertainment, Musical Show, Exhibition and Taste of Nigeria Cuisine (Food).
“The Nigeria House in collaboration with Nigeria Football Supporter`s Club, Russia Chapter, as well as the Nigeria Community Association in Russia had earlier hosted a welcome party in Moscow on the June 14.
“Since then, the team has been on ground coordinating affairs on hospitality and welfare for teeming Nigerian supporters entering through Moscow for the World Cup.”
